Greetings from Lyon Spring!

We are the director and administrator of UCEAP’s Study Center in Lyon,France, and are writing to say how happy we are that you have applied for and been accepted to the UCEAP program.

Lyon is a very special city. It is equal parts attractive history and modern energy: it has the largest Renaissance-era center outside of Venice, and yet some of the largest and most interesting urban development now underway in Europe. You can get some idea of the city by taking a tour at: www.lyoncampus.info and www.lyon.fr/page/accueil.html

Lyon is a geographical crossroads. It is within an hour or two of Paris, Burgundy, Switzerland, Provence, the Mediterranean, and the high Alps, about the same time by air from London, Madrid, Rome and Marrakech, and not much farther from Athens and Istanbul.

Right now, you may be thinking less about travel and more about practical details: how to find housing, get around town, buy necessities, sign up for classes at Lyon 3 and in general how to get settled into daily life over here. Much of this information will be coming to you from UCEAP in a comprehensive and systematic way. But you may have specific concerns, interests or worries about particular issues, and we want you to know that together with the staff at UCEAP’s systemwide University Office, we at the Lyon study center will be happy to provide any information you need to help you through the preparation process.

In the meantime, we want to assure you that each year, everyone gets housed, everyone finds their classes, and everyone has a great time discovering their favorite sights, restaurants, cafés, walks, monuments and the various small pleasures of life in Lyon, in France and in Europe. We are happy to provide any information that will help you get a sense in advance of how things work and of the adventure that awaits you

All best wishes
